How a ‘crisis’ became a ‘catastrophe’
I’m really struggling to watch the news at the moment. Almost every story is about supposedly disastrous climate change. I tried watching the BBC1’s Andrew Marr Show on Sunday morning. But it was so full of climate garbage I had to switch off after the first two interviews as I couldn’t face watching Marr talking to the ludicrous Greta Doomberg or the even more ludicrous Ed Miliband.
One thing I did notice was a change in the BBC’s language. Marr kept referring to the coming “climate catastrophe”. This seems to be a deliberate attempt by the BBC to increase the level of terror as last week we were told that it was just a “climate crisis”.
Anyone who has read Laura Dodsworth’s book STATE OF FEAR: How the UK Government Weaponised Fear During the Covid-19 Pandemic will understand how the government’s Behavioural Science Unit, enthusiastically helped by the mainstream media, used fear to cower people into submission to ever more draconian restrictions on our freedoms during the Wuhan plague. We can be sure that similar tactics will be used with the supposed impending ‘climate catastrophe’ to browbeat us into accepting massively higher energy prices, more taxes and ever more brutal restrictions on our freedoms to supposedly ‘save the planet’.
How do the elites get away with such nonsense?
There are so many reasons why the theory that an increase in a trace gas from 3 parts per 10,000 of our atmosphere to 4 parts per 10,000 over 150 years could cause the Earth to overheat is such complete nonsense that I could almost write a book about it. Ooops, I have written a book about it:
Oh well, for those who haven’t read my book, here are just a few arguments you can use when vainly trying to knock sense into the heads of idiotic, bed-wetting climate catastrophists.
Point 1: Why hasn’t the Earth already overheated?
In the past, CO2 levels have been much higher than today. About 500 million years ago, atmospheric CO2 levels were above 4,000 ppm (parts per million). That’s ten times today’s levels:
So, if CO2 levels are driving supposed global warming, why didn’t the Earth overheat then? Not only did the Earth not overheat, but life on earth thrived.
Point 2: CO2 is essential for life on our planet
About 300 million years ago atmospheric CO2 levels fell to a dangerously low 250 ppm. CO2 is an essential plant food. Many agriculturalists with greenhouses install CO2 generators:
These raise the level of CO2 in the greenhouses to between 1,000 and 1,200 ppm. This increases plant growth by at least 30%. It’s possible that the ideal level of CO2 in our atmosphere is around 1,000 ppm, well above today’s 413 ppm. Were atmospheric CO2 to fall much below 200 ppm, most plant life would die out and so would we.
It would be rather ironic if our scientists were to invent technology capable of extracting CO2 from our atmosphere and they ended up reducing CO2 levels so much that, instead of saving mankind, they ended up wiping us out. That would be almost as stupid as scientists hunting a new vaccine developing new experimental viruses and then allowing those viruses to leak from a dirty, unhygienic Chinese lab and killing millions of people.
Point 3: Our climate is cyclical
If atmospheric CO2 levels were driving the climate, then the Earth would have overheated millions of years ago when CO2 levels were above 4,000 ppm. But the Earth didn’t overheat because our climate is cyclical:

The main driver of climate cyclicality is the Earth’s varying orbit around the Sun. This orbit goes from almost circular to elliptical over a period of around 100,000 years. Then there are other cycles such the Earth’s tilt and precession:
These are called Milankovitch Cycles. In addition, there are several shorter climate cycles, for example cycles of solar activity:
There are also weather phenomena such as El Nino and La Nina, the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation and several more.
Point 4: CO2 doesn’t drive temperature, it follows it
As for CO2 levels – they do not drive temperature changes, they follow temperature changes. As the Earth warms, more CO2 is released from the oceans into the atmosphere. Then, as the Earth cools, more CO2 is absorbed from the atmosphere by the oceans.
Point 5: CO2 is an almost insignificant greenhouse gas
If you Google something like ‘greenhouse gases chart’, you’ll get a picture like this:
But what this pie chart (conveniently for the scientifically-challenged Greta-worshippers) omits to show is that the main greenhouse gas is NOT CO2, it’s water vapour. Water vapour – moisture in the atmosphere and clouds – makes up around 90% of greenhouse gases. CO2 is only about 6%. Moreover, water vapour absorbs a wider spectrum of the Sun’s rays than CO2. Perhaps amusingly, when climate alarmist articles try to frighten us by showing stuff spewing out from power stations, what they’re showing is steam (water vapour) from coolers, not CO2:
I noticed an article last week about some idiots cheering as a power station cooling tower was demolished. I wonder where these idiots think their electricity is going to come from to power their precious selfie-taking phones now that their local power station has been flattened to meet the CO2 reduction targets in the ridiculous Ed Miliband’s economically-suicidal Climate Change Act.

I think it is time the “nudge unit” experienced a bit of their own ” science”.
Isn�t it time to go back to some fundamentals. The greenhouse gases were named because it was thought they trapped radiation in the same way that a greenhouse was thought to be warmer by trapping radiation. A greenhouse is warmer because the air inside warms in the same way as the air outside but it is prevented from mixing. A thermos flask traps radiation but the contents don�t get warmer. How stupid can people be not to know this?
Heat, by definition, is thermal energy transferring from a high to lower temperature. Radiation is not heat, it is electromagnetic energy and it can transfer in any direction regardless of temperature. It only appears as heat when it transfers from a high to a low temperature. This is defined by the laws of thermodynamics. Even without this information how do people think that if gases in the atmosphere trap heat that it then somehow escapes to warms the earth�s surface? Trapped means trapped.
It is astonishing to me that the scientists who came up with this idea did not apply the laws of thermodynamics, but they seemed to be more obsessed with understanding radiation. Tyndall who is often quoted, did experiments with gases in a tube. He was apparently known as an excellent experimental physicist. He thought gases were trapping heat in his tube but it never occurred to him to put a thermometer in the tube to prove it and discover that it wasn�t true. I might excuse errors made by scientists over 150 years ago but there is no excuse today.
I read a book recently claiming that the atmosphere keeps the earth warmer. This is not correct. It is effectively treating the atmosphere as insulation, but insulation does not increase any temperature, it reduces the rate of heat loss. A basic fact that few people know. An insulted house without heating will not be warmer than an uninsulated house without heating. A comparison of the moon and earth is all we need. The surface temperature of the moon on the sun side is much higher than any temperature on earth. The atmosphere therefore keeps us cooler by preventing some of the energy from the sun reaching the surface. On the dark side the earth is warmer than the moon and this is because of some retained heat in the atmosphere but mainly it is heat absorbed by the oceans and land masses in the day being transferred to the atmosphere at night. It is about thermal capacity – mass x specific heat x temperature. Air has a very low thermal capacity and loses heat quickly. Water has a huge thermal capacity. The oceans and land masses heat the air. The air does not contain enough heat to have any impact on land and sea temperatures. This is why coastal areas are warmer in winter and why the Gulf Stream is so effective.
The only crisis we have is one of human stupidity and it is essentially a failure of education but also related to a fundamental failing of humans to accept risk. This happened when we left the nomadic life and settled into communities. We split into leaders and the sheep, both equally deluded about risk. The leaders believe they can solve risk and the sheep allow themselves to be controlled in the belief that the leaders can deliver their promises. A perfect storm is coming. In past times we had little to lose. We mostly provided for ourselves. But after the industrial revolution we became dependent on cheap, reliable energy and mass consumption of goods. Everything our leaders propose will bring an end to this way of life and we will not be able to provide for ourselves when it collapses.
@Loppoman – a good article but missing an essential point. The leaders behave this way because we allow them to do it. We have only two ways to prevent it. One is to keep discussing is as we do here and hope that others will read it and see sense. It isn�t working well largely because we cannot compete with MSM. The other way is by civil disobedience and it needs a critical mass to be effective. This will only happen when the impact of policies starts to have a serious impact and then it will be too late.

It is never too late.The effects of their lunacy will impact sooner rather than later.It will be the young who will turn quickly as they are wedded to the luxuries of the post war World.Us older ones can probably cope more successfully as we have experienced harder times and have some of the necessary practical and psychological skills required.

It’s what I said only today to someone who has swallowed all the predictions of imminent catastrophy, so it’s reassuring to discover that others are thinking as I am. The hypocrisy of these wealthy, overpriviliged, mainly scientifically illiterate predictors of doom, rolling up in their chauffeur driven limousines or landing in their private jets, all 400 of them, to tell the rest of us to stop heating our homes, to give up meat, to stop driving, is overwhelming. They’ve wound each other up to near-hysterical levels of hyperventilating, uninformed rhetoric. Attenborough, indeed, appeared actually mad, as he practically danced a jig on the podium whilst hectoring the assembled multitude. But little by little disillusion WILL set in amongst the young, as their numerous gadgets suffer from power cuts and they are required to cover their acres of under-clad flesh with sweaters! It’ll be somewhat entertaining for those of us who have remained sane. I thought Nigel Farage was quietly but consistently ironic this evening in his reporting of FLOP(sorry, I meant COP)26 and after interviewing an avowed climate change evangelist who has written a book on the subject, Farage certainly made the point that the climate has always changed, it is subject to influence by solar (sun spot) and other natural phenomena which your refer to in your book. Perhaps he’s read it!
Can’t say I disagree with you David,theres a long history of these end of day warnings going back to the 19th century. Personally if humans are causing global warmimg (unlikely) surely it’s to counter the imminent ice age we were promised in the 1970s by the same bunch of charlatans.

Opik certainly was more rational than the other two. The mad Irishman, incomprehensible for much of he time, contributed little other than trying to shout Opik down and the other guy had admitted when interviewed earlier in the evening that the material contained in his recently published book was assembled to support the belief that climate change is man-made, as opposed to genuine investigation of the scientific facts which brought about that belief. People who have hard-wired integrity are incapable of using lies and deception to deliver any kind of aim and goal.
They cannot set themselves up as phoney spirit mediums, astrologers, born-again priests or as sophists and phoney ideologues of any kind.
Looking back in history, it can be seen that as soon as the priestly castes or priests come to dominate a culture, their self-fulfilling apocalypses come about and put an end to the infected cultures.
That happened in Egypt when the priests sidelined the Pharaoh. It happened in Rome when nihilistic Christianity took over as the official religion and made the poor, ill-constituted and weak of spirit the children of God. It happened to the Aztec, Inca and Maya civilisations.
It is happening now in the West at the hands of the “liberal” woke priests of doom.

The financial world, education, the health and scientific worlds, gender and race have all been falsified in order to engineer catastrophic outcomes for evil, narcissistic gains and ends.
