Do America’s newest immigrants despise Afro-Americans?

During a week spent in San Francisco, I noticed that most of the smaller hotels and shops were run by Asians and East Europeans. There were many Afro-Americans (A-As) around, but they tended to be hanging around on street corners begging or slumped in doorways comatose from drink and/or drugs. One thing I saw was how some A-As would hassle people going into shops for money or rave and rant inside the shops till the owner gave them a can of beer, then they would go away.

I watched the face of one shopowner as he handed over a beer to one of these foul-smelling creatures and saw utter and total contempt. A-As have mostly been in the US longer than newer immigrants, they have the further advantage of a US education, yet so many have been complete failures. What must a new immigrant who works all hours to feed his family and to educate his children think of the A-A beggars and drunks? Justified contempt? Justified utter and total contempt?
