When public service became self-service

As tens of thousands of frontline public-sector jobs are cut, public-sector bosses keep awarding themsleves massive pay rises and bonuses. The local council pay feeding frenzy is in full swing with bureaucrats filling their pockets and councillors pushing up their own allowances. In the police at least 12,000 police officers will go, but the head of ACPO has been given a 27,000 pay rise – enough to pay for one policeman. And whileLord Hypocrite Hutton blethers on about the need to cut public-sector pensions, it turns out that politicians will be protected from his proposals. Our MPs probably already have the most generous pension plan in Britain – you or I would have to save over 50,000 a year in our pension fund to get a similar pension to an MP.

Twenty or thirty years ago, we probably had some politicians and council bosses who genuinely believed in public service. Today the’yre just a bunch of lying, greedy, self-serving parasites out to fill their own pockets with whatever they can grab for themselves. We’re definitely not all in this together whatever David Liar Cameron says.
