Our bungling government is going to have to eat a mountain of humble pie if, as seems likely,Gaddafi thrashes the uprising in Libya. For a start, Gaddafi will probably decide to sell his oil to someone else – for example China. So all Blair’s and Brown’s sycophantic grovelling to Gaddafi to get contracts for BP will have been in vain. But as China gets Libya’s oil, British taxpayers will get fleeced yet again as we’ll end up paying for hundreds of thousands of refugees who’ll flee Gaddafi’s vengeance. No doubt Cameron will tell us it’s our moral duty to let them come and live on benefitsin Britain.
So China gets the oil, we get the refugees. Bit of a cock up, Cameron and Hague old chaps. Our national interest lies in buying Libya’s oil, it’s not our problem who runs the place. You’d have thought that after Iraq and Afghanistan, our useless politicians would have learnt not to stick their noses into other countries’ internal politics.
