Our hopeless leaders are planning cutting 490,000 public sector jobs. What idiots – for two reasons. Firstly, because redundancy, early retirement and benefits costs mean that no money will be saved. And secondly because the government could save £150m a week (£7.5bn a year) in real cash by putting all managerial and administrative staff not directly delivering frontline services on a 4-day week. Many private companies introduced reduced hours to save money and jobs when demand fell, why can’t the government do the same?
The reason is that our government is in the pockets of the Big Four accountancies who will make hundreds of millions from supposedly identifying efficiency savings. If the government just introduced a public-sector 4-day week, there would be no need to hand over taxpayers’ money to the accountancies and no need to pay redundancy and early retirement packages. You though Brown was a financially-incontinent fool, just wait to see the expensive cock-up that Cameron and Osborne will bring us.
