Today we got even more evidence of Speaker Bercow’s generosity to himself with taxpayers’ money. We already know he employed family members, made eye-opening expense claims and likes redecorating when someone else is paying the bills. And now he’s splashed out over 100,000 getting himself a spin-doctor to help give the impression that he’s reforming MPs’ expenses when actually he’ll be fighting tooth and nail to give his colleagues even more of our money. But then let’s not forget the real reason why MPs elected Bercow as speaker – Bercow wants to raise MPs’ salaries from 64,700 to over 100,000 a year. Our honourable members are slavering at the prospect of a hundred grand for just a few months work. So don’t be surprised when Bercow supports handng over decisions on MPs’ salaries to the supposedly ‘independent’ Senior Salaries Review Body and they decide to give our politicians their ‘Bercow bonus’ – a glorious 35,000 pay rise to over 100,000 a year.
