Snouts in the Trough

I’ll keep it simple today and just concentrate on exposing two of Lying Dave Cameron’s biggest Remain lies.

Last year, when Dave was acting tough ahead of his sham ‘negotiations’ to win concessions from his EU bosses, Dave told us Britain could thrive outside the EU. But a year later, the same David Cameron is telling us that leaving the EU will wreck the British economy:

Last week, the Leavers told us that the only way to control immigration was to vote for Brexit and implement an Australian-style points system for people wanting to move to Britain. Lying Dave immediately slammed this idea as harmful to the British economy. Ooops, in 2005, when Dave wanted to become Tory leader, Dave told us that Britain needed to introduce an Australian-style points system to control immigration:

Oh dear. One might be tempted to conclude that lying David Cameron is a recidivist liar.

It’s known as Herbert Stein’s Law, “If something cannot go on forever, it will stop”.

So, let’s look at something that cannot go on forever – Government borrowing.

Here’s a outline map of Europe:

The countries coloured in purple are bankrupt. They can never repay the debts they have, but still they keep on borrowing more. Big financial institutions keep lending money to these countries because they believe that, when the proverbial hits the fan, these countries will be bailed out by confiscating citizens’ savings as was done in Cyprus.

The countries coloured red (Spain, France, UK) are moving ever closer to bankruptcy. (I don’t know why Germany is coloured red).

Now, here are some figures:

The left-hand column shows Government debt per person in 2014 and the right-hand column Government debt as a percentage of GDP. The right-hand column is probably the most important and on it Japan is number one followed by Greece, Portugal, Italy, UK, Ireland and Belgium.

If something cannot go on forever, it will stop. If governments cannot go on borrowing forever, they will have to stop.

When governments can no longer borrow and are still overspending, there are only four ways out:

1. Massively cut spending leading to widespread misery, social breakdown and chaos – Venezuela?
2. Default on the debt causing a financial crisis that will make 2008 look like a picnic
3. Inflate away the debt by encouraging inflation and the destruction of people’s savings (Britain in the 1970s)
4. Confiscate ordinary people’s savings to rescue the banks that have loaned money to countries that would never be able to repay the loans

It’s easy to make hyperbolic predictions about the future and most scares actually never happen in reality. But a world where the most indebted countries are stagnating economically while increasing their debt levels isn’t anyone’s idea of a bright future.

What will happen? I haven’t a clue, but it won’t be pretty. And if I was Spanish, Italian, Greek or Portuguese, I would have moved my savings to a bank in Germany or the Netherlands (or perhaps even to Australia, Canada or New Zealand) because you’re a sitting duck for financial expropriation when your government can no longer borrow and decides to ‘do a Cyprus’.

(Monday/Tuesday blog) Most polls show that young people – aged 18 to 25 – are much more likely to vote to stay in the corrupt, undemocratic EU than those with a bit more experience of life.

But, young people, you need to understand that the more migrants that flood into Britain, the more competition there will be for jobs. Many EU migrants might be better educated than you and all will certainly be willing to work an awful lot harder than you for considerably lower wages.

So, young people, forget about fiddled “net migration” figures. The Government likes to use “net migration” as this disguises the massive scale of immigration into Britain.

This is the chart you need to look at, young people. This is the chart that avoids the Government’s fiddled “net migration” figures. This is the chart that shows how many ‘National Insurance’ numbers are issued each year to people not born in the UK

The overall level is over 800,000 a year. But look at the orange line – the number of people each year pouring into Britain from the EU. This is now running at over 600,000 a year – about 12,000 a week. And, young people, these hundreds of thousands of EU migrants will be competing directly with you for jobs.

If you’ve got student debt of £20,000, £30,000 or even over £40,000 – how are you ever going to pay it back (never mind getting a mortgage to own your own home) if almost every time you go to a job interview, the employer prefers a lower-paid, harder-working EU migrant to you?

Young people tend be to be idealistic. But as we approach the EU In/Out referendum, they need to be realistic.

A vote to ‘Remain’ is a vote for a life of either low wages (pushed down by competition from EU migrants) or a life of unemployment as EU migrants take the majority of jobs.

So, young people, forget idealism! Embrace realism! Vote “Leave” if you want a future!

I loved this article from the Grauniad today. It reports from an energy conference in the USA where Donald Trump pledged to scrap the Paris ‘Climate Change’ deal and build a nice big pipeline to transport shale gas from Canada to the USA.

Reading it would have useless Greenie Guardianistas chortling in rage and pissing into their eco-friendly underpants. Yet, I imagine all my readers will be nodding their heads in agreement with everything Trump says.

At an oil and natural gas conference in North Dakota on Thursday, just minutes after he had celebrated hitting the 1,237 delegate mark  needed to formally clinch the party’s nomination, Trump gave a speech on energy policy that was largely shaped by advice from Kevin Cramer, a US representative from the state.

In a press conference before the event, Trump praised the advice of oil tycoon Harold Hamm. Hamm and Cramer then introduced him onstage.

Michael Brune, the director of an environmentalist group, was taken aback by Trump’s address. “I have never heard more contradiction in one hour than I heard in the speech,” he told the Guardian. “There are pools of oil industry waste water that are deeper than Trump’s grasp of energy.”

Trump gave the speech – which Brune also called “a jumbled collection of oil industry talking points that are devoid from reality in the market place” – in a packed arena that generated an atmosphere more like that of a campaign rally than a staid industry conference.

As he hit a number of familiar talking points, a crowd filled with his supporters raised chants of “build the wall”.

He did not directly address manmade climate change, which he has in the past called “a hoax invented by the Chinese“, but he took veiled shots at those who are concerned about global warming.

In addition to his pledge to pull out of the Paris climate deal, Trump promised to only work with “environmentalists whose only agenda is protecting nature” and to “focus on real environmental challenges, not the phony ones”.

He contrasted this approach with that of Hillary Clinton, whose plan to combat climate change he called “a poverty expansion agenda”. Trump also attacked renewable energy sources, claiming that solar energy was too expensive and attacking wind turbines for “killing eagles”.

On Thursday, Trump also made a unique argument about the controversial Keystone XL pipeline, which would pump shale oil from Canada into the US.

Republicans have long supported the pipeline, which was opposed by environmentalists and cancelled by the Obama administration. In exchange for his approval of the pipeline, Trump said, the US would need a “significant piece” of its profits.

Cheering wildly, the crowd gave Trump a spontaneous standing ovation.

“I will give you everything,” he promised them, adding: “I am the only one who will deliver.”

They seemed to believe it.
