I have previously written (7 March 2016) about how the EU referendum is a battle between the elites and the rest of us. The elites want us to stay in the undemocratic, wasteful, corrupt EU where they have their snouts deep in the trough of our money and where they can manipulate the rules in their own self interest.

(Weekend blog) A slightly different subject today. But hopefully today’s blog will help readers or people they know save a couple of hundred quid. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to have a new eye test and, if necessary, buy some new glasses. So, of course I went to Specsavers as the Specsavers ads suggested. (Me, influenced by advertising? Oh dear). Anyway, it seemed a wise move as Specsavers were running a BOGOF (Buy One Get One Free) promotion. So, I could get a pair of normal glasses and a pair of sunglasses for the price of only one pair of glasses. Plus the eye test was free.
So, I had my free eye test and found that my eyesight had improved slightly. (I’m shortsighted, but apparently with age many people’s eyes start to become more longsighted, thus slightly reducing shortsightedness). Then I went and ordered my new glasses with varifocal lenses plus my free pair. The whole thing started off at around £400 but with the BOGOF reduction finally came out at only £198. Yippeee! I had saved lots of money. Clearly going to Specsavers was a terrifically good idea.
Two days ago, I went to collect my new glasses and was surprised to find that, in spite of the fact that my eyesight had slightly improved, the lenses were twice as thick as my previous glasses which I had bought from Asda’s in-store opticians. When I questioned the Specsavers shop assistant about this, she explained that if I wasn’t happy with my new glasses, she could have the lenses replaced with special thin lenses for either £40, £60 or £90 a pair depending on how thin I wanted the lenses.
I decided to go for the medium thin lenses at £60 per pair of glasses which would have brought the total price of my new glasses to £318. Then I started to wonder. It seemed to me that £318 for one pair of glasses (remember, the second pair were supposedly ‘free’) was slightly high. So, I told the shop assistant to hold my order while I popped round to Asda to see what they could offer.
At Asda, I handed over the results of my eye test and found that I could buy pretty much exactly the same glasses as Specsavers were offering for £70 and, if I wanted a second pair (for example sunglasses), the total cost would be just £99. Yup, £99 for two pairs of glasses – one for normal daily use and one pair of sunglasses. Plus Asda offered ultra-thin lenses and anti-glare coating free:
Fortunately Specsavers have a ‘no quibble’ guarantee that, if you’re not happy with your glasses, you can refuse to take them and you get a full refund. So, I cancelled my Specsavers order, got my refund and bought my two pairs of glasses with ultra-thin lenses (just like the previous two pairs I bought a couple of years ago from Asda) for just £99 from Asda. That saved me £219.
So, the moral of this little tale should be clear – Shouldn’t have gone to Specsavers! Should have gone to Asda!

According to the Europhiliac Remanians if we left the EU our pay would drop by thousands of pounds a year, food prices will rocket, jobs will vanish, the value of our homes be halved, trade would stop, we would be invaded by terrorists, no one would be able to go abroad on holiday, universities would shut, scientists would be unable to work, even World War Three will break out by the end of the year… on and on goes the list of disasters they predict:
Incidentally, these are pretty much the same disasters our rulers predicted if we didn’t join the Euro. They lied to us then and they are lying to us now!
I wonder why they never actually go into details of how all these situations are to arise, why firms would leave the UK despite us having one of the best workforces in the world, why we would be unable to travel, why house prices would fall when there’s a shortage of housing, why conflict would arise despite having nothing to cause one and all the rest? There can only be one answer which is they have no idea because they are inventing the situations to suit their case; there simply are no disasters waiting for us after June 23rd if we vote to leave. As for our pay dropping, actually wages would probably increase as there wouldn’t be so much competition from East Europeans for jobs
Another point they never address is how did we British manage to invent so much, have the world’s strongest military, become the workshop of the world and build a merchant navy many times larger than any other to take those goods all over the globe, invent a legal and government system so good it has been copied world wide while controlling a quarter of the planet via our Empire, all without ‘help’ from the bureaucrats of Brussels?
How did our scientists like Newton, Faraday, Jenner, Fleming or Darwin manage without foreign funds and assistance from Brussels bureaucrats? How did engineers like Stephenson or Brunel make their products with no assistance from the Spanish and Greeks and Portuguese and Bulgarians and Romanian gypsies and all the other good folk who are flooding into our country from the ghastly, economically-stagnant EU? And just how did explorers like Cook, Drake, Scott or Cabot manage to sail without the EU’s permission and without EU regulations?
All these things, and more, were done because we were once a nation run by people of honest determination, patriots who believed in Britain and her people, men and women we will long remember with drive, energy and skills.
We still have such people around. But it is because our leaders no longer trust and believe in our nation, its people or what they can achieve, a greatness far beyond its size as we proved over centuries, that they have made us grovellingly and expensively subservient to nations we once refused to bow down to and several of whom are, and always have been, either ungovernable jokes (hello Greece, Portugal) or mafia fiefdoms (hello Bulgaria, Romania etc)
I hate to think of what the true leaders of the past, men like William Gladstone or Benjamin Disraeli or Winston Churchill, would make of their modern counterparts like Blair, Brown or Cameron!

Canada, Germany, UK, US, Netherlands, Scandinavia – around 65% of people got three or more answers right
France – only 50% of those taking the test got three or more answers right
Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece – yup, you guessed it – less than 40% of those questioned got three or more right answers
And perhaps surprisingly, given their ability to make money, less than 30% of Indians and Chinese got three or more right answers.
The US firm S&P conducted a worldwide survey to assess ordinary people’s ‘financial literacy’.
‘Financial literacy’ doesn’t mean being a Harvard MBA or qualified accountant. It just means being able to understand some very simple concepts about money which would enable people to make the right decisions about where to put their savings.
To be considered ‘financially literate’ respondents just had to get the right answers to three of the following five questions.

The piece below is an extract from a much longer article recommended by a reader. I make no comment. Despite having received the first death threat against myself and my family for writing this blog, I still believe in the freedom of speech that the politically correct are desperately trying to stamp out and so I present the piece below as just one possible scenario:
“A vast and concerted act of treason has been taking place across Europe since the creation of the European Union. Under the Schengen Agreement, Brussels promised to guard the outer frontiers of the EU, while abolishing internal border controls. The Eurocrat elites broke the first promise but kept the second, thus opening a wide path for the onrushing M*sl*m hijra immigration invasion.
Right now, approximately a million new M*sl*m migrants are engaged in a struggle to find a warm place to sleep in a continent with nothing approaching the capacity to adequately house them. At least 75% of the migrant invaders are M*sl*m men of fighting age. Native-born ethnic Germans, Swedes and others are being thrown onto the street to provide emergency housing for M*sl*m “refugees.” Tens of thousands of migrants are currently living in tents, and in temporary shelters like school gymnasiums and underused warehouses.
There will be no means of finding or creating permanent quarters for them before the Central European blizzards come. When the snow is deep in Germany and across Europe, these men are going to enter local houses, demanding to be taken in as boarders—or else. Where it is useful, small migrant children will be held up in front as human shields for their emotional blackmail value; elsewise, they will be discarded. One way or the other, M*sl*m migrants will be attempting to move inside of German homes and apartments seeking heat and food, and the young M*sl*m men will be seeking undefended infidel or kafir women to slake their lust (which is their right, under *sl*mic Sharia law).
In disarmed Europe, any group of a dozen or more cold, hungry and angry M*sl*m men armed with clubs and knives will be able to enter any German house or business that they like. Worse, there are now reports of vast quantities of firearms being smuggled into Europe by the muhajirs, with cowed European authorities afraid to search the migrants or their baggage, lest they provoke riots. And weapons are not only smuggled in “refugee” baggage: eight hundred assault-style shotguns were just seized in a single truck in northern Italy, bound from Turkey to Belgium. How many truckloads of weapons and explosives have not been stopped?
In Germany, even before the winter snows, the migrants are flash-mobbing and looting shops and stores. Seeking to forestall a social eruption, police do not respond until the mobs have safely departed. For now, the German government is paying these store owners for their lost merchandise, but this cannot continue forever. Businesses are closing and Germans are retreating in fear, as the muhajirs learn that they can invade private property and rob Germans without repercussions, convincing them even further of the docile passivity of their hosts, and the inevitability of their ultimate hijra invasion success.
As attacks mount, the German police will nearly always fall out on the side of the traitor-elite politicians who pay their salaries, and they will not come to the rescue of besieged ethnic Germans. At least, not under official orders, or in uniform. This calculated disregard by the international socialist elites for the safety and welfare of ordinary German citizens will in time lead to vigilantism and death squad actions by “off-duty” German military and police personnel. They will be acting against their “hands off the M*sl*ms” orders, which are ultimately emanating from Brussels. And in time, enough firearms will find their way from the military, police and black markets into the hands of ordinary European nationalists for them to mount an armed resistance.
The accelerated pace of the 2015 M*sl*m hijra invasion was conceived, planned and executed by Quisling traitors comprising the elite leadership of the European branch of the international socialist movement, headquartered in Brussels. To paraphrase British nationalist patriot Paul Weston, if a farmer deliberately inserts a fox into the henhouse, who is guilty of killing the hens?
Now, today, across Europe the stage is being set for the genocide of the weak, confused and defenseless European hens. Former East German Communist functionary Angela Merkel achieves high marks at both M*sl*m fox insertion and German hen repression. (Meanwhile, former Soviet Communist KGB Colonel Vladimir Putin evolves to become a Russian nationalist who always advances Russian interests, at least as they are perceived by himself and his cronies).
A few days after the Paris attacks, French police commandos fired some 5,000 rounds down an urban street into an apartment set into a crowded block. A year from now, I predict that when police arrive on that street, they could be met with sniper fire, improvised barricades, IEDs and possibly RPGs. In short, Paris, Brussels and many other European cities will in time resemble Beirut during the 1980s.
To understand Europe’s future, simply ask the Lebanese what follows when a nation takes in tens of thousands of angry M*sl*m “refugees.” Civil war is what happens, even if it begins among the various competing refugee factions. It is a threadbare hope that a wished-for peaceful silent majority of M*sl*ms will be able to influence the radical *sl*mists away from violence, and thus forestall the coming European Civil War, any more than imagined peaceful silent majorities could have prevented the civil wars in Lebanon, Bosnia, Syria or a dozen other places. Actual peace-loving M*sl*ms will be as insignificant to the outcome of the coming conflict as were any Quaker pacifists hiding in 1944 Berlin. The only significance of the alleged silent majority of peaceful M*sl*ms is that they will serve as living camouflage for the jihadists to hide among.
