Friday blog
Today’s blog may seem a bit offbeat. But I can’t spend every blog bleating about how Britain is wilfully committing economic suicide (due to Net Zero) and societal suicide (due to mass open-borders, Third-world immigration invasion).
We all support charities like the RSPB and the RSPCA. After all, they do lots of wonderful work to protect Britain’s birds and other animals, don’t they? And, of course, they’re both “Royal” charities so they must be trustworthy, mustn’t they?
Today I’d like to focus on the RSPB.
The RSPB has an annual income of around £195 million. That’s quite a lot of our money. Most of this £195 million (£155.5 million) comes from donations and legacies. About £20 million comes from government grants. That’s our money. So, if you are a taxpayer and also donate to the RSPB, you’re actually donating twice. Thank you very much for your generosity.
According to Professor Google, the head honcho at the RSPB receives an annual total remuneration package of approximately £200,069 (including benefits and pension contributions) based on the charity’s recent annual reports. Not bad for the country’s Chief Twitcher.
But there’s a possibly more than minor problem with the RSPB’s credibility. There are over 10 million domestic cats in Britain. Estimates put the figure at between 10 million and 12.5 million. QED, an awful lot of people own cats.
These cats in kill an estimated 160 million to 270 million total animals each year, which includes roughly 55 million birds (or about 25% to 27% of their total prey).
Wildlife Toll Breakdown
- Total Animals: Recent studies and data from organizations like the Mammal Society place total annual prey kills between 160 million and 275 million.
- Birds: Out of that total, approximately 55 million birds (including popular garden songbirds like sparrows, starlings, and blackbirds) are killed annually by domestic cats
So, given that the RSPB takes loads of our money and pays its Twitcher in Chief so handsomely, what does the RSPB have to say about the approximately 55 million birds being slaughtered each year by Britain’s domestic cats? Well, this seems to pose a bit of a moral dilemma for the RSPB as many donors may also own cats. And such donors would possibly be upset if the RSPB accused them of participating in a massacre of Britain’s tweety birds.
So, the RSPB has repeatedly claimed: “there is no clear scientific evidence that such mortality is causing bird populations to decline”. Yup. you read that correctly. The RSPB claims (unbelievably implausibly in my humble opinion) that the annual massacre of 55 million of our avian friends by domestic cats has absolutely no consequences on Britain’s bird population. Instead the RSPB chooses to blame things like “habitat loss and intensive farming” and shooting and, of course, Climate Change for Britain’s increasing de-birdification. We mustn’t forget Climate Change as that seems to be responsible for everything bad that ever happens to us.
But the RSPB seems blissfully unaware of its ‘cognitive disonance’ in pretending to protect birds while desperately ignoring the massacre of possibly more than 55 million birds a year by domestic cats. So the RSPB happily carries on raking in its tens of millions, often from the very people (Britain’s cat owners) who are most guilty of the wipe-out of the birds the RSPB is supposed to be protecting.
Then, of course, millions of animals are killed each year to provide food for Britain’s cat population. But the slaughter of so many animals to feed Britain’s cats and dogs is the story for another blog.
