In its latest report, the RNLI boasted that it had saved 352 lives. To save these 352 lives, the RNLI spent about £250,000,000. That’s about £700,000 per life saved.

We are usually led to believe that the RNLI consists mainly of volunteers. But perhaps many people don’t know that the RNLI has 1,879 full-time staff and in the summer months this goes up to 2,438 when seasonal staff are included. Of these, 11 get paid over £100,000 a year and 137 get more than £60,000 a year. The average cost of an RNLI full-time employee is about £55,000 a year. That’s pretty generous for the supposed ‘charity’ sector. Perhaps the RNLI is rather more charitable to its own staff than most people imagine?

But a possibly more worrying figure is that, in spite of the RNLI’s lifeboats being mostly staffed by volunteers, the RNLI’s staff cost £111,100,000 a year. So, almost half (44%) of the money we give to the RNLI (£250,000,000) goes to pay for its staff.

The RNLI makes it very clear what its mission is:

“The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We do this through lifeboat search and rescue”.

However, under its (IMHO) woke, (IMHO) UK-hating management, it seems that the RNLI has added a little sideline to its life-saving activities – providing a concierge and ferry service to illegal Third-world criminals, rapists and murderers whose lives were never in peril on the sea.

I believe it’s time for us to stop donating to the RNLI – an organisation which has (IMHO) lost sight of the reason for its existence.
