Most of wish we could do something to help those affected by the Pakistan floods. Some of us may even have given money. Even if we haven’t, our Government has just chucked a pile of our cash Pakistan’s way. But will this help?
Sadly, countless studies by the UN of corruption worldwide indicate that in Pakistan over eighty per cent of all aid is stolen by thieving politicians, bureaucrats and local officials. So give money if you want, but remember former US president Jimmy Carter’s words that foreign aid means ‘taking money from the poor in rich countries to give to the rich in poor countries’. Can we help Pakistan – probably not.
