A cynic might be tempted to suspect that we’re being taken for fools

Monday/Tuesday blog

My totally pointless complaint to the BBC

I’ve made a complaint to the BBC about their ludicrous claim that sea levels could rise by up to one metre by the end of this century. Here’s my complaint:

YOUR COMPLAINT:
Inaccurate claims/ lies by the BBC presenter

In a report on coastal castles being destroyed by supposed climate change and erosion, the presenter claimed that sea levels could rise by up to a metre by the end of this century. This is complete and utter nonsense. Since sea levels started being seriously measured in 1890, they have risen by just over 10cms. At this rate, sea levels would take around 1,000 years to rise by the BBC’s claim of one metre. Yet the BBC claims this could happen within just 78 years.

Moreover, the sea-level rise since 1890 has been constant – there has been no acceleration. Even the BBC’s gods – the IPCC – state “there is no convincing evidence of an acceleration in global sea- level rise during the 20th century”.

I expect the BBC to issue a prominent admission that the claim of a one-metre sea-level rise by the end of this century is a load of nonsense, with absolutely no scientific evidence backing it up and I expect the BBC to stop making such irresponsible, false climate-catastrophist claims in future.

No doubt I will be fobbed off and/or told to get stuffed by some pimply, pig-ignorant BBC supposed ‘fact-checker’.

Heavier/lighter monsoon rains – climate catastrophists explain why

I was doing a bit of research to understand what the climate catastrophists were saying about the unusually heavy monsoon rains in Crapistan this year.

I found out that in the years 2010-2015 the monsoon rains on the Indian subcontinent weren’t particularly heavy. Here’s a series of charts showing the percentage of India’s land area affected by drought rising since around the 1950s (the red line on the charts):

Fortunately, the climate catastrophists were able to explain this worrying phenomenon of lighter Monsoon rains. It was all due to Climate Change warming the Indian Ocean:

Using observations and climate model experiments, we demonstrate that this reduction in rainfall is linked to the rapid warming of the Indian Ocean, especially its western part, during the past century. The Indian Ocean warming, along with a relatively subdued warming of the Indian subcontinent, has played a key role in weakening the land-sea thermal contrast, a major driver of the South Asian monsoon. The weakened land-sea thermal contrast dampens the summer monsoon Hadley circulation, reducing the rainfall over the central Indian subcontinent.

Monsoon rains – climate catastrophists do a reverse ferret

Then came the terrible Pakistan floods of 2022:

Once again, the climate catastrophists were able to explain this worrying phenomenon of heavier monsoon rains. It was all due to Climate Change warming the Indian Ocean:

Climate change likely increased extreme monsoon rainfall, flooding highly vulnerable communities in Pakistan. Global warming is likely to make India’s monsoon season wetter and more dangerous, new research suggests. Scientists have known for years that climate change is disrupting monsoon seasonPast research based on computer models has suggested that the global heating caused by greenhouse gases, and the increased moisture in the warmed atmosphere, will result in rainier summer monsoon seasons and unpredictable, extreme rainfall events.

So, now you know – Climate Change warms the Indian Ocean causing both shorter/lighter monsoon rains and longer/heavier monsoon rains.

More ludicrous claims from our national treasure?

I watched a bit of national treasure, David Attenborough’s Frozen Planet II. It featured polar bears, seals, whales and melting ice – just the same as Frozen Planet I. In the latest version Attenborough portentously warned that “scientists have predicted that the Arctic could be ice-free by 2035”. OMG! OMG! OMG!

But hold on a minute. Would these be the same ‘scientists’ who, the mainstream media informed us, predicted the Arctic could be ice-free by 2008:

And then by 2012:

And then 2013:

And then 2014:

And then 2015:

And then 2016:

And 2017 or 2018:

.

Well done for trying but I suspect you will prove what Mark Twain said – It is easier to fool people than convince them that they have been fooled. This applies to the BBC and the population in general, but the BBC has the power to spread propaganda and, like all state funded organisations and large corporations, it is almost impossible to challenge them. Mark Twain died before he saw the way that TV and social media could spread propaganda, and the influence that business has over government policy. I wonder what he would say about today.

It’s all so predictable, they will twist any facts to suit their narrative. And as you say there’s no gainsaying them. Before you know where you are your PayPal account will be closed!

Don’t worry the realities of net zero are just about to begin, they will not be able to lie their way out of that, although they will try to blame it all on Putin.I am quite looking forward to some cold weather and all those enthusiastic but totally ignorant youngsters suddenly facing the reality of their own stupidity.Keep going David, the quality of your research is second to none and one day they will have to listen.

I have just read a publication from the GWPF “The Crisis of the European Energy System” by Alexander Stahel, which I recommend. He describes himself as an investor but what he says could have been written by anybody involved in electricity supply 20-30 years ago. There are some fundamental issues about designing a reliable energy supply system that he gets right, and they are all being ignored today. I have only one issue with it which that he says pumped storage does not have a rapid response capability. This is not true. Dinorwig was designed with that capability.

After reading what I suspect is a fake email from a certain professor, it occurs to me that it is a complete waste of time discussing climate change and the science behind it. The impact of this nonsense has now reached the dangerous situation where our electricity supplies are on the point of collapse in addition to being unaffordable which the GWPF document describes. The most important aspect he brings out is the long timescale associated with planning and building coal and nuclear power stations and the public objections to such plans. I cannot see how the UK and Europe can avoid a major energy crisis and it is of our own making. Liz Truss, the government and parliament seem to have no understanding of the problems they have created.
