“Fatism as bad as racism”, say supposed ‘scientists’

One of the big stories in the press yesterday was a report by a group of supposed ‘scientists’ claiming that ‘fatism was as bad as racism’. These self-appointed experts argued that when we criticised fat people, then most tended to eat even more and thus become even fatter. Apparently these geniuses wanted ‘fatism’ to be put on the same legal basis as ‘racism’. And one fat person interviewed claimed implausibly’fat is something you have, not something you are’.

Perhaps there are two things that are surprising about this story

1. That it was carried in two ostensibly serious newspapers – the Times and Torygraph

2. The way it tries to take responsibility away from people for their own unhealthy lifestyles.

Of course, there are a few people with medical conditions that cause them to put on weight. But even the politically-correct NHS acknowledges “Obesity is generally caused by eating too much and moving too little. If you consume high amounts of energy from your diet, particularly from fat and sugars, but do not burn off the energy through exercise and physical activity, much of the surplus energy is then stored by the body as fat’.

But apparently the holier-than-thou opinion leaders want us fined or even imprisoned for calling waddling piles of blubber ‘fat’ as they try to impose their political correctness by creating new types of criminality – first ‘racist’, then ‘sexist’, then ‘ageist’ and now ‘fatist’

Iimagine that the female lard-lump whocrammed herselfnext to me on the train to London the other day, occupying her seat and most of mine, probably didn’t need to eat crisps and drink coke for about an hour almost non-stop to ensure her survival.

So, come on fatties. Stop blaming the rest of us. Take some responsibility for your lives and lifestyles – eat less and do more exercise. Or do you really want to spend your lives looking like this?

On the other hand, one day we ‘fatists’ may be glad that there was a fat person around:

Usual stuff from the lefties then – anything goes and we must never be judgemental.

I suggest when it comes to obesity there is plenty of blame to share around. Official advice on nutrition over the decades has varied between wild guesswork, corrupt backing of vested interests and sheer stupidity. You struggle to find food in my local Tesco. It is wall-to-wall crisps, sweets, chocolates, cakes, sugary drinks and microwaveable rubbish. But hey, it’s low fat so that’s just fine!

However, as you say in your article, these are hardly vital to life and nobody is forcing you to eat them. It’s not even cheap. Maintaining a sensible body weight can be difficult – especially if you don’t bother to try.

This seems to be a world wide problem. I have recently been in Spain and the U.S.A.,
and there are many obese people.
