Snouts in the Trough

Here’s our great leader, multi-millionaire David Cameron, with his best chum, our great chancellor George Osborne, heir to the Osborne baronetcy of Ballentaylor in County Tipperary and Ballylemon in County Waterford:

They seem to be very happy men. Well, so would you and I be if we, like them, had been born with a lorry-load of silver spoons in our mouths and we had their many millions.

But there may be another reason Cameron and Osborne are laughing. They may be laughing at our gullibility and stupidity. Because, while Cameron and Osborne have been telling the rest of us to tighten our belts and have preached fiscal responsibility ‘to get the public finances back on track’ , they’ve been spending ever more of our money on the Cabinet Office, the department supposedly responsible for cutting public spending. For us it may be frugality and cuts, but for Cameron’s and Osborne’s civil service, it’s been spend spend spend.

Just in case you didn’t know what the Cabinet Office does, here’s an explanation from their own annual report: “Within any great organisation is a strong and vibrant centre and at the heart of the UK Civil Service – often described as the best in the world – is the Cabinet Office. At the core of Government, the Cabinet Office is leading the way in ensuring that the Civil Service continues to be the very best by creating a modern organisation for the modern world”.

In the full year before Cameron and Osborne came to power, the Cabinet Office’s staff cost us an eye-watering £146m. By 2011-12, staff costs had shot up by £18m to £164m. And then two years later, by 2013-14, staff costs jumped again by another £6m to £170m:

Just in the last full financial year, the number of staff at the Cabinet Office increased from an incredible 2,040 useless over-paid, over-pensioned pen-pushers to 2,327 useless over-paid, over-pensioned pen-pushers.

No wonder Cameron and Osborne are laughing. They get away with spending ever more of our money on their own bureaucratic empires while lecturing the rest of us about thrift and cutbacks.

Just weeks after Britain narrowly avoided the disaster of electing Ed ‘Edstone’ MiniBrand’s bunch of socialist no-hopers, it might be useful to briefly look at what motivates the third of the electorate that voted for another financially-incontinent, economically-illiterate Labour government.

The basic philosophy of socialism is a strong sense of entitlement to other people’s efforts and wealth.

Socialists always have a strong social agenda (equality, fairness, helping the less well-off etc) but rarely a credible economic one (how to pay for it).

The socialist belief goes something like this: “I need a certain amount of income for myself and my family to live a decent life, therefore I am entitled to have it.

If I’m unable to earn this much myself, then somebody else must make up the difference between what I get and what I want:

1.  My employer must pay me more for my efforts however exemplary or feeble those efforts are. Moreover, even if my efforts are well below those of my co-workers, I still deserve as much money as them.  But if my employer chooses to exploit me by paying me what I am worth rather than paying me what I want (and what I feel I am entitled to) then……..

2.…. my next-door neighbour (who is smarter and/or more hard-working than me and therefore earns more than me) must give me some of their income through paying higher taxes some of which should be given to me either as handouts or free public services

3.…If that is not enough to satisfy my sense of entitlement and my need to buy all kinds of consumer rubbish and holidays for myself and my family, then the Government must borrow more money, give some to me and get somebody else’s children and grandchildren to pay back the debt at some time in the future

4. Usually most socialists and Labour voters expect a combination of 1, 2 and 3

Socialism is often merely self-interest justified by ideology and in a normal socialist economy the sense of entitlement to other people’s wealth is legitimised by democracy.  i.e. to claim that most people in the country voted for redistribution of wealth so it is legitimate to implement it.

In the worse days of the trade union excesses of the 1970s, workers would decisively vote themselves a 40% wage increase and then were scandalised when their “democratic will” was not fulfilled by “management” or the prevailing government. They failed to understand that voting for something didn’t automatically mean it was practical or affordable.

All the Greeks have done in electing Syriza is to vote for an end to austerity. As did the French in 2012. Mr. Tsipras is using democracy as justification for his current stand.  But he has forgotten that whilst Greece has democratically voted itself the right to more free money, Germany, as a separate country, is equally democratically entitled to vote to refuse to give it.

The concept of earning the money you want to spend does not compute in the socialist psyche.  So we have reached the inevitable fatal flaw with socialism, pointed out so eloquently by Margaret Thatcher:

The EU is largely built on socialist principles – central control by bureaucrats who know best and fleecing taxpayers in a few ‘rich’ countries – Germany, Finland, the Netherlands and of course Britain – to pay for the idleness, low productivity and sense of entitlement of the majority of countries – Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Hungary, Czech Republic etc etc.

If Britain were to leave the EU taking its £19bn a year contribution with it, the whole house of cards would collapse. That’s why Euro-Dave is working so hard to keep us in the EU so we can carry on subsidising the sense of entitlement of the majority of EU countries who have no desire to earn the money they wish to spend because they can just vote to get it from us.

If we ever were to get a fair EU referendum (very unlikely), then we could vote to stop giving our money to the European millions who feel entitled to it.

Hardly a day goes by without the BBC telling us what a wonderful job the crew of HMS Bulwark are doing supposedly  ‘rescuing’ thousands of African and Middle East economic migrants. And today, we even had a report about Defence Secretary, Michael Fallon, flying out to the ship to congratulate the crew on their courage and achievements. What total bllx!

My limited understanding is that the people smugglers now just take their boatloads of Africans into international waters, abandon them and send a distress call to the Italian coastguard. Then a ship from Italy or Britain or some other EU country helpfully rushes to the ‘rescue’ and, even more helpfully, provides free transport to Europe for all the migrants who were so destitute that they could afford to pay the traffickers thousands for their journey.

Here are some of the lucky Africans benefiting from our free ferry service:

The BBC is happy to big up HMS Bulwark’s supposed ‘successes’ – helping flood Europe with tens of thousands of Africans. But the BBC seems less keen on mentioning the real problems – the corruption of all of Africa’s billionaire rulers, pathetic African economic mismanagement which has impoverished almost a billion people and African population growth that is completely out of control.

In 1950 there were 229 million Africans and (despite our Germans friends’ efforts at population reduction) 549 million Europeans. Since then the population of Africa has shot up more than 400% to over 1.2 billion, while Europe’s population has only increased by 35% to 742 million (much of that due to Third World immigration):

Every day, another 71,000 Africans are born. In Europe it’s about 1,800 a day. Every year another 26 million Africans are born – 90% of which will live in excrement-covered hell-hole poverty until they grow up and head for Europe.

We need population control in Africa and we need it now. But to suggest that would be ‘waaacccciiiissssttt’.

Latest estimates are that around 500,000 Africans and Arabs will try to get to Europe this year. Next year, what will it be? A million? Two million? Who knows?

Britain’s leaders claim that they’re being firm in resisting the European Commission’s proposal to resettle Africa’s millions around the EU. But all that will happen is that Italy and Greece and other landing points will quickly give these economic migrants EU travel documents and most will head for Britain because we have the most generous benefits system in the whole EU.

Remember that nasty Mr Gaddafi? The one we overthrew to liberate the Libyans into the welcoming arms of the *sl*mic State? Apparently when he was in power he warned Europe’s leaders about the need to control a deluge of migration from Africa and offered to work with Europe to prevent it.

Below is a link to a YouTube video about how Europe is committing suicide by allowing the Africanisation of our continent. At 10 minutes it’s a bit long for my taste. But it does painfully expose the stupidity of Europe’s leaders as they try to claim that ‘rescuing’ (providing a free ferry service for) millions of Africans is our ‘humanitarian duty’. The in-yer-face rent-a-gob Katie Hopkins is the only person who has dared say what most people probably privately think, we should pick up the migrants and take them straight back to Libya.

A  deluge from hell (also known as Africa) is heading our way and our rulers are powerless to stop it. In fact, they’re encouraging it by providing free ferry services to Europe:

Unless you inherit a pile of money, there are probably only four main ways to have a good standard of living in Britain – marry someone rich; convert to *sl*m and live off benefits; work for your money; make your money work for you.

Then there are probably five main ways of getting your money to work for you:

1. Put it in a bank or building society but get little to no interest

2. Buy some shares either directly or through a unit trust or pension scheme. If you’re lucky your money will grow by 2% or 3% a year

3. Get into buy-to-let property and make 5% to 8% a year

4. Become a trader buying and selling shares, currencies and commodities. Possibly you’ll make 20% or more a year if you’re any good

5. Start spread betting. With this you can easily double your money, triple your money, quadruple your money each year. But you can also bankrupt yourself within a few days if things don’t go the way you expect

These workshops may be about spread betting, property investment or even something more exotic. But most use the same sales process:

Step One The FREE workshop – here the presenter will claim that they are a successful investor who once had a 9-5 job but are now financially free as they’re making so much money and they’re going to let attendees in on the secret of how they got so rich. They may even show you photos of what they claim is their house and their holiday home. Usually their claim to be a successful investor is a lie. One guy I saw presenting is a failed Canadian musical actor, another is a free-lance motivation consultant. And they don’t explain why, if they have so much money, they’re bothering to turn up at a third-rate hotel in your area trying to convince you to get in on whatever scheme they’re selling

The first part of the FREE workshop may let you get a glimpse of some techniques for making money. But most of the time is dedicated to getting you to sign up for a 2-day course. You’ll be told the 2-day course is ‘worth £3,799’ or even £4,899, but that if you sign up there and then, you’ll only have to pay maybe £970 or £500 or even less. You’ll also be told “there are a limited number of places” – all lies of course

Step Two The 2-day training I’ve just been on a 2-day training in spread betting. The training was supposedly worth thousands of pounds, but I paid only £97. Some attendees paid a mere £50 for the 2 days. There were about 40 of us. And next weekend there will be another 90 attendees

I have to admit, the course was good, even amazing. I was more than impressed. The principle was really smart. Instead of trying to understand which shares or currencies or stock markets would rise or fall, all you needed to do was identify patterns of human behaviour and use these patterns to place bets on rises or falls. For example, to simplify enormously, if a share started to rise, people would begin buying to get in on the potential profits and the price would rise further. Then those who bought early would ‘take profits’ by selling and the price would dip. But that dip would encourage other buyers so the price would rise again. Then the price would hit a top (resistance point) and start to wobble, That would lead to more people selling and the price would fall

So, if it’s so good, where’s the scam?

The scam is in 2 areas:

1. The fortunate few Firstly, I believe few people can do it successfully. But I’m certain that perhaps 2% or 3% of the attendees could make a lot of money because they had the right mental skills and psychological character to be successful spreadbetters. But most attendees were being lured into something where they would lose their shirts and much more

2. Yet another course Secondly, the main purpose of the 2-day course was to sell you a much longer training and mentoring programme which, you would be told, “is worth £20,000” or even £25,000 or even £30,000. But if you signed up immediately for one of the “few remaining places”, you would only pay say £15,000. But then later during the 2-day training, the presenter would claim that they’re “setting up a network of traders around the world”, that there were just 6 places left and if you agreed to take part in this network you could have one of the 6 places for just £9,700 – a massive reduction on the £20,000 or even £30,000 that the training scheme was supposedly “worth”.

Of course, once 6 people had signed up, the presenter had a problem – if 6 people had just paid only £9,700 for the training, nobody was going to pay £15,000. So the presenter claimed that a lot more people wanted to do the training and mentoring programme, that it would “be unfair” for them to pay more than £9,700 and so he would accept other people for the “few remaining places” at the same incredibly low £9,700. No doubt, the same story would be used on the 90 or so people attending the same 2-day seminar this weekend.

My conclusion The techniques taught would probably work for a very few lucky people who had the skills to be successful. But the scams were in how the training programmes were sold using the ‘closing door’ scarcity selling technique – “there are only 6 places left” and the unrealistic expectations created of vast wealth when most people would end up seriously poorer than when they started
