Can’t you get your breast enhancement or tattoo removal or new lips on the NHS? It’s the government’s fault, the libtards assure you, for cutting NHS budgets.
And so on – everything is always the fault of greedy corporations and uncaring government. Libtards never want people to take responsibility for their own lives.
But now there are two massive threats to the libtard message – Brexit and the Trump presidency.
What if both these turned out to be successes? What if these allowed ordinary people to break free of excessive government and EU control? What if these both turned out to be turning points in history whereby nation states decided that their independence and border control were more important than submitting themselves to the oppressive bureaucracies the libtards love so much? What if these ushered in a new era of self-reliance and personal independence?
That would be a disaster for the treacherous, statist libtards.
The libtards are afraid. That’s why day after day our media is full of scare stories about how Brexit will be a disaster; how Brexit will take 20 years; how Trump will start a nuclear war and all kinds of other total rubbish. Some publications have tried to blacken Trump’s presidency by suggesting he will be impeached. But the libtards haven’t quite worked out what he will be impeached for. After all, he hasn’t yet squirted his sperm all over a White House intern like libtard hero Bill Clinton did. Even today, the useless Daily Mirror tried to claim that Hilary Clinton actually won the US election and therefore Trump was an impostor. And, of course, there was the slanderous attempt to smear Trump by claiming he owed his victory to Vladimir Putin. Pathetic and desperate tactics by the whining libtards.
Probably never in British and American history has the mainstream media been so biased against the will of the people. Probably never in British and American history has their been such a coordinated campaign of vilification and invective against our democratic choice.

Tourists from China are avoiding France amid surging violence and crime, a Chinese tourism expert has said, reporting that customers are turning to Russia as a safer destination.
Ha-ha-ha-ha. You have to laugh. Our dear French friends’ decision to let the invading migrant armies take over their capital city seems to be having the predicted effect – tourists are avoiding Paris like the plague.
President of the Chinese Association of Travel Agencies in France, Jean-François Zhou, said “increasingly violent” thefts and assaults are turning France into “one of the worst destinations for foreign tourists”.
Mr. Zhou, a representative for major Chinese travel agency Utour in France, reported a steep decline in visitor numbers from Asia, and said many tourists are now looking to Russia as a less dangerous holiday destination.
“In 2016, there were 1.6 million Chinese tourists compared to 2.2 million in 2015. The number of Japanese tourists dropped 39 per cent, and Koreans 27 per cent. Our tourists have turned to Russia, which is less attractive but at least it is a safe country. For Putin, it is an economic windfall”, he told Le Parisien.
Rising violence and aggression account for the drop, according to Mr. Zhou, who said: “For a number of Chinese tourists, the dream of visiting France and Paris has turned into a nightmare”.
“[Chinese tourists] are robbed in the palace of Versailles, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, in front of their hotel, as they leave the coaches … In high season, not a day goes by without tourists being assaulted.”
Violent incidents in France have “sparked panic” on social media in Chinese, Mr. Zhou said, recalling one in which an 80-year-old man was seriously injured as he tried to resist thieves, and he reported how female tourists have been pushed to the ground while criminals steal bags containing all their papers.
Having lived in France for 25 years, Mr. Zhou said he has borne witness to the country’s deteriorating security situation over the decades, which has resulted in Paris ranking “number one in Europe in terms of the upsurge in delinquency”.
While so far there are no organised campaigns calling on Chinese tourists to avoid visiting France, the experienced travel agent said that a boycott “has already begun”, with “several Asian operators preferring to divert Asian tourists to Italy, Spain, and Russia”.
Paris’s regional tourism office last year reported a slump in visitor numbers to the city, and attributed some of the decline to terror fears, as more than 200 people have been killed in *sl*mic terror in France since 2015.

Libtard stands for “liberal retard”
A libtard wants to live in a fantasy world (in which life is the way that they WISH IT WAS) as opposed to dealing with life the way it actually is.
The most idealistic libtard envisions a time when science/technology and Socialism will eliminate all poverty, hunger, war, disease, injustice, unemployment and prejudice.
Most libtards subscribe to the notion that “people are basically good”, and build their foundation for activism and “improving the human condition” on that faulty premise. Because they deny the facts about human nature, their “reasoning” is diametrically opposite to common sense.
The reality that people have different initiative levels, are basically selfish, and often work for their own interests before helping others, puts a libtard’s panties in a wad. So, when citizens will not voluntarily comply with various libtard prescriptions for “the common good”, then laws must be passed, or force used, to MAKE them comply. (It is the gradual path to totalitarianism).
Metaphorically speaking, a libtard is a sheep who thinks that their grasp of diplomatic nuance or metaphysical sensitivity will prevent their flock from being devoured by the world’s wolves. When America, the sheep dog, responds to wolf attacks, the libtard judges these defensive actions as offensive and wolfish.
Since libtards are unable to recognize our enemies for what they are, they cannot be trusted to safeguard our future.
A libtard’s goal in life includes many of the following:
–the establishment of a Socialist “utopia” (a.k.a. a global nanny state)
–“benevolent” totalitarian control of the world’s population through any means necessary
–ever increasing government micromanagement of private enterprise (a.k.a. clueless meddling)

–the filing of specious law suits in order to thwart the will of the people
–the promotion of the tyranny of the minority
–the filing of specious law suits to shakedown corporations for cash (under the guise of “social responsibility”)
–the disproportionate taxation of citizens “who have more money than they need”
–the redistribution of wealth from producers to non-producers (under the guise of “fairness”)
–the banning and confiscation of all privately owned guns (even though it has led to genocide in Europe)
–the abolition of all private property rights
–the destruction of all national sovereignty (eg the EU)
–the destruction of Capitalism
–the establishment of one religion (with no personal accountability), OR the abolition of all religion
–the appeasement of Islamic radicals
–the regulation, or banning, of all opposition media (under the guise of “fairness”)
–the appeasement of anyone threatening Western values and civilisation
–the further insertion of Socialist ideology and indoctrination into public school curricula
–the purposeful “dumbing down” of the masses through inane public school curricula and pedagogy
–mass thought control through “speech codes” and political correctness
–the further promulgation of the homosexual/pedophile/transgender agenda
–the teaching of HATE (superficially disguised as “Women’s Studies”, “African Studies”, etc.)
–the legalization of marijuana (“far OUT, man”)
–the establishment of world-wide socialized medicine (under the guise of “fairness”)
–the conservation of the environment over the conservation of the economy
–the demonization of attempts to make English America’s national language
–world peace (which genocidal dictators define as: “the absence of conflict”–dead men cannot resist your brutal oppression)
–the conservation of the environment over the conservation of humanity and the absoulte conviction that Man-made Global Warming is happening even though it isn’t
–the abolition of individual freedom
Stupid self-loathing
Not surprisingly, there is a thread of anti-Americanism and anti-Western culture that runs through these ideas. A libtard cannot stomach the idea that America, despite its faults, is the greatest country in the world and that Western civilisation has given humanity greater benefits than anything that existed before or currently exists. As such, he/she sees it as their duty to tarnish America’s and the West’s current and past image using all available means including: cherry picking facts and using innuendo, half-truths, lies and fabrications.
Libtards’ actions undermine America’s and the West’s educational system, economy, criminal justice system, military personnel, sovereignty, security, and freedoms. Meanwhile, they try to fabricate a moral equivalence with rogue nations like China, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Syria, Somalia and Sudan. (But don’t question their patriotism).
NOTE TO ALL MALCONTENTS: If America is truly evil, please pick yourself a better country.
Otherwise get a real job, and get a life, because you obviously have WAY too much time on your hands.
(It’s not yet clear how many of the self-regarding Hollywood celeb luvvies, who said they would leave America if Trump was elected, have actually quit their luxury California mansions!)

Because most libtards are pantheists (New Agers), agnostics, atheists, liberal Jews, liberal Catholics, or have otherwise turned their backs on Jehovah, they lack true spiritual fulfillment. In order to try and fill that void, and “to make a difference”, they work for the causes listed above.
A libtard will participate in protests, rallies, marches, bike rides, etc. in a feckless attempt to change whatever supposedly needs changing. Their desire to revisit the “glory” days of the 60’s is sometimes a driving force. Regardless, the end result is usually the same: nothing actually changes. But their noisy protests and constant media appearances make self-righteous, holier-than-thou libtards feel good about themselves.
Because conservatives take responsibility for themselves and their children, have real jobs, undergird the economy, and value their time, their counter-protesting and therefore their voice in the mostly libtard mainstream media is often negligible.

In the first two weeks of 2017 only 580 innocents have been killed in Religion of Peace attacks. That’s a tiny, almost negligible, 290 a week.
That’s a pathetic effort from our friends at the One and Only True Religion. After all, in 2016 a more impressive 408 a week (21,338 for the whole year) were murdered; in 2015 it was even higher at 531 a week (27,594 innocents for the whole year). But 2014 was a bumper year with 632 a week massacred (32,864 for the whole year).
What is happening? Are our inbred, rape-obsessed, violent, bearded maniac friends losing their touch? Why is the death toll falling each year? I think we should be told!
At this rate we’ll soon be back to 2013 levels – a mere 322 a week murdered (a laughably small 16,772 for the year). Come on chaps – you’re losing your touch! You’ll have to try harder!
As for our media, I imagine the BBC and Channel 4 and all mainstream British media ‘forgot’ to keep us informed about the appalling scale of this weekly slaughter year after year after year as they wouldn’t want us getting the ‘wrong impression’ of the benefits the Religion of Peace has brought to humanity over the last 1,400 bloodsoaked years.

Today, I’d like readers to consider the difference in how our laws are applied to our many new guests from the World’s One and Only True Religion and ordinary white ethnic Europeans:
Burning down synagogues is OK
A court in Germany has decided that a brutal attempt to set fire to a local synagogue in 2014 was an act meant to express criticism against Israel’s conduct in its ongoing conflict with Hamas.
A German regional court in the city of Wuppertal affirmed a lower court decision last Friday stating that a violent attempt to burn the city’s Bergische Synagogue by three men in 2014 was a justified expression of criticism of Israel’s policies. This was in spite of the fact that at no time did the arsonists carry any banners criticising Israel, nor did they shout any slogans against Israel.
Johannes Pinnel, a spokesman for the regional court, explained the court’s decision regarding the three German Palestinians who sought to firebomb the Wuppertal synagogue in July 2014. The court said in its 2015 decision that the three men wanted to draw “attention to the Gaza conflict” with Israel and deemed the attack not to be motivated by antisemitism.
Israel launched Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014 to stop Hamas rocket attacks into Israeli territory.
The court sentenced the three men – Muhammad E., 31, Ismail A., 26, and Muhammad A., 20 – to suspended sentences for tossing firebombs at the synagogue.
Clearly trying to burn down a Jewish place of worship is not a ‘hate crime’.
Putting bacon on a mosque doors gets a death sentence
Kevin Crehan was jailed for 12 months in 2016 for tying bacon to the door handles of a mosque. On December 27 2016, Crehan mysteriously died in HMP Bristol.
Crehan, from Knowle, was jailed in July 2016 along with 48-year-old Mark Bennett, from Patchway, after the pair attacked Jamia Mosque in Green Street, Totterdown, Bristol.
During the incident a St George’s flag was also tied to the fence surrounding the mosque.
So what?
Well, it seems that burning synagogues (a traditional German pastime?) is not really a crime at all. It’s merely a slightly over exuberant expression of political, not anti-semitic, views.
But putting some bacon on a mosque door handles not only deserves a harsh prison sentence but also that the authorities the put the evil perpetrator in a prison where there is a high likelihood of him being killed by you know who.
Of course, we don’t yet know and may never find out the truth about Kevan Crehan’s death. I imagine we’ll be told that he died from ‘natural causes’. I guess that it is ‘natural’ that one dies when attacked by a gang of murderous bearded maniacs in prison.
But what is clear is that the judge sentencing Crehan must have known that he was possibly imposing a death sentence on him given how many of our prisons are effectively under the control of gangs from the Great and Wonderful Religion.
While none of us would condone Crehan’s actions, I imagine few of us would believe that what he did deserved prison, let alone a death sentence.
Given that British police, councils and local politicians all turned a blind eye to the rape and torture of over 50,000 white girls by Wonderful Religion gangs over a period of 15 years, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised to find that that our terrified rulers have put their Wonderful Religion friends above the law, while using the law to brutally oppress anyone daring to oppose our rulers’ policy of turning Britain into an *sl*mic state.
Firstly, in response to my blog about Ethiopian droughts – where I pointed out that reduced rainfall was a regular 7 to 10 year event that could be predicted and planned for, one reader wrote – “I think this is by far the most racist and disingenious (sic, I think he meant ‘disingenuous’) article I’ve ever read in 2017. Obviously I’m not surprised since the piece written by Mr bigot himself”
I thought my weekend blog was properly researched and provided the statistical basis for my claims that stupidity, indolence, overpopulation and corruption were more responsible for Ethiopia’s problems than any weather or rainfall variations. Now, today’s blog. Admit it, like me you always thought the Germans didn’t have a sense of humour. As for Germans understanding and even using irony – forget it!
Well, now we all know the truth. The Germans are a truly hilarious and really ironic bunch.
After all, what could be funnier and more ironic than the country famous for invading other European countries and slaughtering their people, because they believe them to be inferior to Germans and even subhuman, allowing Europe to be invaded by millions of inbred, low-IQ, largely illiterate, unemployable, violent, rape-obsessed, supremacist, emotionally and intellectually retarded Third-World scum who believe that we are inferior to them, want to oppress us and want to slaughter even more Europeans than the Germans habitually do when they regularly lose their rag?
Well, there is something that could be even funnier and more ironic than that.
What could be funnier than that would be Germany’s leaders hailing this utter disaster as a wonderful thing for Europe.
I don’t know which buffoon in the video below is the funniest. It could be the woman from the Greens welcoming the Religion of Peace invasion as being good for Germany. Or it could be the ‘arschlok’ claiming that there is no link between terrorism and M*sl*m immigration.
But I think the award for must ludicrous lie goes to the German politician who kept a straight face while saying that the taxes paid by the hard-working migrants were supporting the pensions of older anti-immigration Germans. As far as I remember, the latest German government report showed that around 50 of the 1,000,000 migrants who arrived in Germany in 2015 had got jobs in 2016 and around 40 of these supposed ‘jobs’ were menial, minimum wage positions with Deutsche Post.
So, give a big hand for today’s comedy stars. Here they are – the comedians who run Germany and thus Europe.

I wanted to stick with Africa for my weekend blog as I had some thoughts that may be relevant to the perpetual appeals we get to give money to starving, drought-hit Ethiopians and Eritreans and other primitives who live in the Horn of Africa.
Firstly, there have been supposed ‘droughts’ in the Horn of Africa in 1892, 1913, 1929, 1935, 1942, 1951, 1958, 1966, 1973, 1984 and 1988.
So, my first question is – are these droughts unexpected events that could not be foreseen? Or are these droughts part of a recurring weather pattern that can easily be predicted and planned for?
Then I wondered – what about that there El Nino? After all, El Nino is a regularly occurring weather pattern that has nothing at all to do with supposed Climate Change or Global Warming bollox. Moreover, it’s well known that El Nino has a major influence on rainfall in many parts of the world causing more rain in some and less rain in others.
So, I found a chart showing El Nino events:
I’m abroad at the moment so don’t have the Internet access or time to try to do a proper correlation. But could it be that the repeated supposed ‘droughts’ in the Horn of Africa are actually linked to El Nino?
Possibly. But whether El Nino is the cause of failing rainfall every 7 to 10 years in the Horn of Africa, it’s hopefully clear that low rainfall is a predictable event occurring every 7 to 10 years that can be planned for and easily dealt with. After all, a bit of intelligent irrigation, some water conservation and some storage of food would make the recurring low rainfall a minor irritation rather than a major catastrophe it always turns out to be.
But that would mean the peoples of Ethiopia and Somalia and Sudan and Eritrea stop murdering each other, start thinking ahead, making plans, getting organised and doing some real work. This is not a very likely prospect given the apparently low intelligence level and natural instincts of much of the region’s population.
Then we have population – Africa’s perpetual curse:
Oh look, when Saint Bob Geldorf did his holier-than-thou BandAid thing in 1984/5 there were around 40 million wonderful Ethiopians. Now there are around 96 million of these fabulous people!
Perhaps someone from Oxfam or UNICEF or Save the Children could explain how a country that was unable to feed 40 million people in 1984/5 should be able to feed 96 million now? And let’s look forward another 20 years to 2037 when there will be around 190 million Ethiopians. Ooops! Has anybody planned for that?
Meanwhile, here are a few more inconvenient truths:
1. The 10 richest families in Ethiopia are worth around $24bn. Perhaps if they stopped looting their country and paid a little tax there would be enough food and water for everyone?
2. During 1983-1985 the worst famine in the country’s history which led to more than 400,000 deaths, the military government not only spent between $100m and $200m to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the revolution while millions were starving, Mengistu’s regime also attempted to impose customs duties on aid shipments to further enrich themselves.
3. During the 1973-1974 Wollo famine, attempts to hide the reality of the situation by the Ethiopian government caused 300,000 deaths. Meanwhile Emperor Haile Selassie spent some $35m to celebrate his eightieth birthday in 1973.
4. And then there are the reasonably reliable reports (all vehemently denied by the foul-mouthed Saint Bob) that much of the food aid was loaded straight onto Russian cargo ships and sent to the then Soviet Union in exchange for millions of dollars of weapons for the Ethiopian government.
I could go on, but you probably get the picture by now.
Perhaps the charities and aid agencies clamouring for our money ‘forgot’ to tell you about these?
Time to recolonise?
Ethiopia’s and Sudan’s and Eritrea’s problems have nothing to do with drought. The low rainfall is entirely predictable and could easily be planned for. These countries’ problems are the stupidity of their people, their obsession with producing ever more children that they have no means of feeding and their utterly corrupt incompetent rulers.
The only way to save these basket-case, cesspit countries from themselves would be to recolonise them, throw out their disastrous thieving rulers, implement drastic birth-control policies and run them as UN protectorates for a few generations giving time to develop their people, their infrastructure and their agriculture.
But, of course, nobody dares propose this as it would be “waaacccciiiisssstttt”. And so the human misery continues threatening not only these countries but also European civilisation as the ignorant, subhuman hordes pour into our continent to escape their own entirely self-inflicted impoverishment.
Forget about the myth of ‘man-made global warming’. What’s happening in Africa really is a mess! And it’s a threat to humanity! And it really is a total truly man-made disaster!
Like me, you’ve probably been giving money to charities for years to save starving African babies. And like me, you were probably bombarded over the Christmas period by appeals for money to (yup, you guessed it) save starving African babies.
So, why are African babies still starving?
When most people think of foreign aid, they tend to imagine brave aid workers rescuing people from earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, famines and other such natural disasters. But this emergency aid accounts for an extremely small part of the foreign aid money we give either directly to charities or through our taxes to charities and various relief agencies. Perhaps just $5bn to $6bn of the $135bn a year foreign aid is emergency aid. The other 95% of charity and aid money goes to what’s called ‘development aid’ – helping countries escape from poverty and putting them on the path to development.
In the last sixty years around $3trn has been donated by developed countries to help poorer countries. There have been some major successes – extreme poverty has been more than halved, diseases like river blindness and smallpox have been all but eradicated and millions of lives have been saved from famine and conflict. Moreover, many aid recipients have managed to break free from poverty and achieve rising levels of prosperity for their people. In the 1960s countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Thailand, South Korea and Taiwan had lower income per capita than some African countries. Now, thanks in part to aid, they have shot ahead of their African counterparts. South Korea for example, used to have a lower income per capita than Ghana. By 2013 South Korea’s income per capita at $33,189 was close to ten times that of Ghana at just $3,461. Though the country which has achieved most in improving the lot of its population is probably China where, with very little foreign aid at all, close to 700,000,000 people have been taken out of poverty in just 30 years. Meanwhile, in Africa close to 700,000,000 more people are living in poverty than 30 years ago. Ooops!
While most formerly poor Asian and some South American countries have made significant progress on the road to development and modernisation, too many countries, particularly in Africa, have stagnated or even become more impoverished over the last few decades in spite of being given more in aid than any other part of the world.
In Europe, after WWII the US-sponsored Marshall Plan is generally credited for helping war-ravaged European countries to rebuild and become prosperous. So some progressive holier-than-thou lefties have demanded a ‘Marshall Plan for Africa’. There’s only one problem with this demand. Africa has already had its Marshall Plan – several times over.
In the last fifty years Africa has been given the equivalent of around ten Marshall Plans. In today’s money, the five-year European Marshall Plan saw about $100bn – $20bn a year – being used to rebuild Europe after WWII. In the last fifty years, Africa has received over $1trn in aid. So, Africa received about the same every year – $20bn a year – for fifty years that Europe received each year for just five years. Yet where are the new roads, the hospitals, the water supplies, the electricity networks and the prosperous middle classes that we’ve been paying for? They don’t exist. And almost all the money we’ve given to ‘starving’ Africa has been wasted or stolen by corrupt, incompetent multi-billionaireAfrican rulers.
What did China do right that Africa has failed to do?
China realised that the only way to take people out of poverty is to restrict population growth so that the economy grows faster than the number of people. In Africa all our money has achieved is massive and unsustainable population growth:
And when you have too many people you get two things: war as tribes fight over limited resources and mass emigration:
So, remember those starving African babies we saved? Millions of them are now on their way to Europe:
For over 50 years the charities and aid agencies have lied and lied and lied. Our money hasn’t helped Africa. What Africa needed wasn’t money, it was population control. What the charities and aid agencies have given us is massive predictable and avoidable human disaster that threatens not just Africa, but Europe as well.
When telling us why we voted to leave the EU, the pundits and experts and chattering classes privileged elites usually say it was mainly due to Merkel’s disastrous open-borders immigration policy. Or perhaps the self-appointed supposed ‘experts’ give some other reason.
But one thing they never dare mention is ‘national character’. Why not? Because it has become ‘racist’ and ‘divisive’ and a ‘hate crime’ to suggest that there is a difference in national character between different countries and different continents. So today’s blog is going to mention the unmentionable – we are not all the same.
Three basics of the English national character are probably beliefs in freedom, fairness and democracy. The EU went against all three of these beliefs. In the EU we surrendered our freedom to Germany and its sycophantic cronies. There is no fairness in the EU which is an utterly corrupt, self-serving, money-extorting mafia. And as for democracy, the EU hates democracy and, on the few occasions it allows countries to vote, it forces them to repeat their votes until they give the answer the EU wants.
Of course, immigration was important in the EU In/Out Referendum. But I believe that many English voted Leave because they innately sensed a clash between what they believed in and what the EU represented.
But let’s take this further. I propose that the German national character includes a need to overwhelm and dominate other people. It’s not by accident that the Germans were largely responsible for WWI and WWII and now we find that the whole EU is a German racket run by and for the benefit of the Germans.
And the French? It may be in their national character to be pompous, arrogant, treacherous and unreliable? I’ve just been reading a history of the Ardennes battle in 1944 and how Allied commanders found dealing with the French the most difficult part of their work.
Let’s move to the Club Med countries – all are disorganised, largely bankrupt, corrupt failing states propped up only by German money. Is this just a coincidence? Or could it have something to do with the national character of these countries inhabitants? As for any country that was once a colony of Spain or Portugal or Italy – they seem to have successfully inherited the Latin characteristics of idleness, corruption, disorganisation and wealth ending up in the pockets of very few hugely wealthy families while the masses live in poverty.
Or how about Africa? Is it an accident that, in spite of having massive natural resources and having been given hundreds of billions in aid, there isn’t a single African country that provides a reasonable life for its citizens? Is it an accident that every single African country is a stinking, overpopulated, shit-covered, rotten cesspit ruined by incompetent, kleptocratic, greedy, self-serving scum? Or could Africa’s situation have something to do with the national character, willingness to work and intelligence level of its rapidly-increasing populations? Just wondering.
Or Arab countries? Again, is it an accident that their massive oil wealth has been squandered largely in attempts to wipe out Israel and to kill each other when they found out the the Jews are willing to fight back? Is it an accident that Arab countries are largely infertile deserts when things like solar-powered desalination plants and proper irrigation could have turned their coastal regions into massively productive land? Or has the failure of 800 million Arabs to make a decent life for themselves something to do with their national character?
They call Australia the ‘Lucky Country’. Usually this is because of Australia’s abundance of natural resources. But perhaps Australia is really ‘lucky’ because it was first colonised by the English? Perhaps if Australia had been colonised by Asians or Indians or the Spanish, its natural resources would have been squandered and it would have been turned into the usual Third-World shit-hole?
So what?
And now to the point of today’s blog. I believe there are marked differences in national characters even though it has now become taboo to dare to mention this. I believe further that English-speaking countries share some common characteristics – beliefs in freedom, fairness and democracy. As Britain breaks free from the stifling oppression of the EU and Trump takes over from West-hating, *sl*mophiliac Obama in the USA, there is a new opportunity for English-speaking countries to work together both for their benefit and for the benefit of the world.
The last British Empire was probably one of the greatest civilising forces the world has ever seen. The new ‘English Empire’ has the potential to repeat that success if only we dare seize the opportunity
(Readers may notice I haven’t included the Scots or Welsh in today’s blog is spite of the heroic efforts of Scottish and Welsh regiments in defending our freedoms. I’ve left the Scots and Welsh out as they seem to have forgotten the efforts of their brave regiments in so many conflicts and have decided that they would rather be tiny German colonies than part of the new, rising English-speaking empire. Bad decision guys!)
I don’t know the average age of my dwindling band of readers. But I suspect many will have a relative who has or will soon get some degree of dementia.
If so, here are just a few of the delights they can look forward to:
Grasping Granny Syndrome
I’ve written before about what I’ve named “Grasping Granny/Grandad Syndrome”. As part of their dementia, an elderly person becomes obsessed with money and starts believing that everyone close to them is trying to steal their cash. My mother keeps checking her bank statements obsessively to discover if we are plundering her bank account (we’re not) and has even fired a long-serving, honest cleaner for supposedly stealing some handkerchiefs (which my mother had actually mislaid).
Over-trusting outsiders
As the dementia sufferer becomes ever more suspicious of those close to them, conversely and oddly they seem to become ever more trusting of outsiders. This creates wonderful opportunities for people selling investments, mobility scooters, new windows, stairlifts or whatever to flog garbage and hideously over-price their products. It also allows outsiders, such as carers, to ease out the family and insert themselves into the elderly person’s will.
In my mother’s case, the woman caretaker of the block of flats where my mother lived launched an aggressive campaign to discredit us children for supposedly ‘not doing enough to look after our mother’, to isolate my mother from us and to have herself and her disabled brother named in my mother’s will instead of us. This campaign included constantly badmouthing us and very forcefully telling my wife – a qualified geriatric carer who had been looking after my mother 3 days a week – not to come and visit my mother any more as she, the caretaker, would supply the support my mother needed.
I don’t know if the caretaker has succeeded. But I do know she will be disappointed whatever the will says – the £700,000 London flat where my mother lived wasn’t owned by my mother. It belonged to the family of her second husband and was only available for my mother to use as long as she wanted. My mother has now left it and it is being sold with none of the proceeds going to my mother.
You’ve ruined my life
At some stage you may have to move a dementia sufferer from their home in order to get them into a safer environment or bring them closer to family to provide care and support. We had to move my mother out of London and closer to my sister so we could put in a support network of 3 carers, my sister and myself. Since then my mother has complained that we have ruined her life because she supposedly had a wonderfully active social life in London with loads of friends (absolutely not true), lots of activities (absolutely not true) and she is now lonely, friendless and bored in her new home when she actually gets out a lot more and visits restaurants and the theatre much more than she did when in London.
No conversation
As the dementia sufferer becomes ever more isolated because they are unable to maintain a proper social life, they lose the ability to converse as they have nothing new to say and no new experiences to talk about or else they’ve forgotten what they’ve been up to – which restaurants they’ve visited, which theatre plays they’ve seen etc – and so can’t talk about these. Many times people in the block of flats where my mother now lives have tried to start a conversation with her. But she just gets bewildered not knowing what to say. Then myself or my sister or whoever is with her has to jump in to keep the conversation from dying which makes my mother feel even more confused and excluded.
Nothing works
As the dementia sufferer becomes ever more crazy, they start creating problems for themselves. These might include putting tea bags in electric kettles – a good way to destroy an electric kettle; pouring boiling water into the jar of coffee rather than the coffee cup then complaining they’ve run out of coffee; switching off the central heating and then ringing in the middle of the night to claim the heating doesn’t work; pressing the wrong buttons on the radio and then complaining the radio doesn’t work; not pointing the TV remote control at the TV then complaining the TV is broken as they can’t change channels; not putting the phone back in place after a call forcing someone to go round and sort that out. What you never know is how many of these are genuine dementia-caused mistakes and how many are deliberate in order to attract attention and make the dementia sufferer the centre of attention.
Yup, if you know someone whose body has decided to live a lot longer than their brain, then you’re in for possibly years of such ‘entertainment’
